Emulators & ROM's
"So what is an emulator and a ROM?" I hear you ask. Basically, an emulator is a program that pretends your computer is another computer. In other words, your PC becomes a Megadrive (for any Americans, a Sega Genesis) or whatever other emulated computer you care to download. Personally, I love the Commodore 64! That's probably because it was my first computer ever. It's hard to believe just how long I used to wait for those games to load and when you download them they take 2 seconds because they are 30kb each LOL. A ROM is the game. Simple isn't it?!
So, let's get going. There are absolutely tons of sites that you can visit to download your emulators and ROM's from. I have included here three of the best emulators I have found. GenCyst is for the Sega Megadrive (or Sega Genesis, same thing). I haven't come across any problems with it at all and it will play most of the ROM's that you will download. The other emulator is called ZSNES. This is used to play the SNES ROM's (AKA the Super Famicom). Again, not really any problems found with this emulator. The final one is for the classic Commodore 64. I can almost here you all moaning LOL, but the games are so simple, but so addictive. It is the prime example that graphics mean absolutely nothing. It's all about gameplay. The simple graphics and the bleeps instead of sounds do not detract from the amasing games that have come from this computer. Download it and try it for yourself. I guarantee that you'll be hooked on Chuckie Egg and Flimbo's Quest from the second you play them!
Just as a word of advice, not every ROM will play on every emulator, so if a game doesn't work, don't automatically assume the ROM file is at fault, just try it using a different emulator. That's why it's always good to keep a good choice of emulators on your computer.
Unfortunately, I can't include the ROM's on this site, but here are a few great sites to download your stuff from. Just be patient with some of them, because they are very busy sites! I've noticed recently that emulators are beginning to really take off over here. Everyone I know that has a PC is downloading games LOL, so it figures that is it's big here, it's gonna be huge over the rest of the world. But it's worth the time it might take.
