The X-Files started in 1992 and since then it has gained a cult following across the globe. It's creator, Chris Carter, never expected its success to be as widespread as it is.
The program follows the investigations into the paranormal by two FBI agents, Agent Fox Mulder (played by David Duchovney) and Agent Dana Scully (played by Gillian Anderson).
While alot of the episodes are single "files", there has been an ongoing storyline from the end of season one about a government conspiracy to cover up the existance of extra-terrestrials. This has continued running, and was enhanced with the release of X-Files - The Movie.
